Job Title: PHYSICAL THERAPIST (Multiple Task Employee) Department: REHABILITATION SERVICES

Summary: (Summarize primary purpose of job function)
Organizes and conducts medically prescribed therapy programs to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of body part; helps patient/client reach his/her maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities. Serves as educator and/or resource for patients, clients, families, care givers and other direct care providers to assess, instruct, correct, and/or provide information about practice skills and techniques appropriate for: _________Infants 1 day to 3 years. _________Children 3 to 12 years. _________Adolescents 12 to 15 years.
_________Adults of 16 to 70 years. _________Elderly adults, including frail elderly, > 70 years.

Essential Responsibilities:
1 Practices Physical Therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
2 Respects and understands the patient's right to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decisions.
3 Evaluates, tests, and administers therapy programs for each patient involving physical means, such as exercise, massage, heat, ice, water and electricity, as prescribed by the physician. Attends to specific patient variables such as motivation, stamina, etc., in planning treatment programs.
Develops rehabilitation goals and objectives that are measurable, described in functional or behavioral terms, and include estimated or relevant time frames for achievement, considering the anticipated discharge. Completes all appropriate documentation to maximize financial remuneration.
4 Confers with the person(s) most closely associated with the active management of the patient and keeps them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modifications and/or progress.
5 Able to complete special projects in the area of athletics as substitute for Athletic Trainer on a limited bases:
a. providing injury prevention, injury assessment/triage, and rehabilitation treatment follow-up post injury.
b. providing education to students, coaches and teachers in safety in sports activities with emphasis on appropriate training techniques.
6 Able to complete special projects in the area of ergonomics as a biomechanical specialist;
a. involved in evaluation of physical trainee's/employees's job description to determine specific daily routines and areas of repetitive movements resulting in physical stresses on the body utilizing injury site assessment and factors related to the root of causes of injury.
b. provides training which addresses ergonomic safety concepts, proper body mechanics and therapeutic stretching exercises used to alleviate any accumulated stress from specific job activities.
7 Participates in the improvement of patient satisfaction, job specific processes or procedures. Organizes personal time requirements and demonstrates ability to establish priorities for maximum efficiency.
Actively participates in compliance with JCAHO standards, both departmentally and organization wide.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education B.S. or M.S. in Physical Therapy, has a majority of hours of formal training or a degree in a related field, such as physical education, massage therapy.
Experience None, Previous experience in an acute care setting is preferred but not required.
Licensure Current Georgia licensure to practice Physical Therapy in the State of Georgia.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Excellent interpersonal, oral & written skills, ability to work with diverse groups.
